Devgad Fort, also known as Janjira Devgad Fort, is a historic coastal fort situated near Devgad Beach in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. Surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides and connected to land on the south, the fort stands as a proud reminder of Maratha naval glory and architectural brilliance.
The fort is famous for its panoramic sea views, ancient lighthouse, Ganesh and Hanuman temples, and sunset points, attracting history lovers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike.

Devgad Fort was constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century as a strategic coastal defense post. It served as a Maratha naval base, safeguarding trade routes and protecting the coastline from enemy invasions.
Later, the fort came under the command of Kanhoji Angre and the Angre clan, who played a significant role in Maratha naval warfare. In April 1818, after the fall of the Maratha Empire, the British East India Company captured the fort under Colonel Imlack.
